About the Role
We need a senior developer who builds excellent front ends and owns the backend behind them. Someone who can take a project from brief to production and be trusted that nothing breaks along the way.
Our work splits between new builds and existing client systems. You will start some projects from scratch and inherit others mid-life, including code you did not write and documentation that may not exist. At senior level we expect you to get your bearings quickly in an unfamiliar codebase and make changes safely.
This is freelance work, project by project, but we are looking for a long-term working relationship rather than one-off hires. Our best freelancers have worked with us across many projects.
We also expect you to make architectural decisions, catch problems before they reach production, and tell us when our approach is wrong.
What You Will Work On
- Front end architecture and builds in React, Next.js, and TypeScript
- Backend systems in Node, including API design and integrations
- Complex third-party API integrations
- WordPress development, including custom plugin architecture
- AWS infrastructure, deployment, and environment management
- CI/CD pipelines and GitHub workflows
- New builds from scratch and ongoing work on established client systems
- Using AI coding tools effectively at a senior level, with judgment about where they help and where they do not
What We Are Looking For
- 4 to 8 years building and shipping production web applications
- Strong React, Next.js, TypeScript, and Node
- Solid AWS experience, comfortable owning deployment and infrastructure
- WordPress and custom plugin development
- Experienced with API design and complex integrations
- Confident with Git, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines
- Equally comfortable on greenfield builds and inherited codebases, including legacy code and undocumented systems
- Experienced with time tracking and project management tools such as ERPNext and ClickUp, and able to keep estimates, logged time, and task status accurate without being chased
- Comfortable using generative AI coding tools with good judgment
- Strong creative thinking and the ability to propose better solutions
- Able to work independently, own delivery, and communicate clearly without supervision
- Strong spoken and written English. You will speak with us directly and often with clients
How We Work
Fully remote, freelance basis. Depending on the job, we work either hourly or on an agreed fixed price. Smaller pieces of work are often better handled as a one-time price, larger ones hourly, and we agree which suits before anything starts.
Work is tracked through our project management system. We expect time logged accurately, task status kept current, honest estimates, and early flags when something is off track.
